About Randall S. Wood, LMHC

Lasting change does not come from thinking your way out of pain. It comes from learning to be with what is underneath.

My Path to Becoming an Integrative Therapist

My approach is integrative, depth-oriented, and paced to what the nervous system can hold. I work with adults and couples in Lafayette, Indiana and virtually throughout Indiana, drawing on four evidence-based modalities.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) reaches the wounded and protective parts of the self. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain process memories that did not file the first time. Attachment theory explains how each of us learned to do closeness, and what it takes to do it differently. Polyvagal-informed care helps the nervous system learn the felt difference between bracing and resting.

The structure stays the same across every client and every modality. Ground first. Regulate second, then go deeper. The throughline is depth: working at the level of the root, not the symptom.

I work with adults and couples in-person in Lafayette, Indiana,  as well as clients virtually across the state.

About me

Randall S. Wood, LMHC

My path into therapy started as a resident director, working one-on-one with students. The 1:1 conversations are what stayed with me. I wanted depth. From there, I trained in the modalities that could reach below surface-level support.

That shaped what I built next.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Lafayette, Indiana. My private practice is at 133 N. 4th St., Suite 506, and I see clients virtually across the state. My training includes work at the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis, and my approach draws on Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, polyvagal-informed care, attachment theory, and psychoanalytic self psychology. [CONFIRM: certification or training level for each modality]

Alongside my private practice, I work with college students at Purdue University. The community work and the private practice work shape each other. The Purdue clients keep me close to what high-functioning adults under pressure really need.

What I’ve Learned as a Therapist

Family of origin matters more than most people realize.

How you were related to as a young person shapes how you relate to yourself and others now. The work is to root out the limiting and damaging effects of what did and did not happen growing up, and to form new neural pathways that can hold something different.

Protectors deserve respect.

The parts of you that learned to overthink, shut down, people-please, or push hard, those parts were not bad. They were doing their job. IFS helps me honor what those parts have carried while we work to let the younger, more vulnerable parts come into the room with care.

Coregulation is real, and it matters

Your nervous system does not learn safety from being told it is safe. It learns from being with another regulated nervous system, in real time. As an integrative therapist in Indiana drawing on polyvagal-informed work, that is part of what I offer in the room.
